St James’ Pupil Takes on Tom Moore’s Fundraising Challenge

1 May, 2020

St James’ pupil, Ethan Beardow, takes on Captain Tom’s challenge to raise funds for Covid-19 victims

Ethan Beardow, from our St James’ CE Primary School, has begun his charity walk, aiming to reach 100 laps of a 25 metre course by his 10th birthday, on 18th May. Ethan has cerebral palsy and cannot walk unaided, but isn’t fazed by the challenge he has taken on, saying on his crowdfunding page:

‘My name is Ethan Beardow and I have cerebral palsy. I am 9 years of age and I really would like people to help in raising money for the victims of Covid-19 to pay for their funeral costs, as it’s a big expense and quite a lot of their family members are not working at the moment, so they can’t afford to pay the full costs.

I was inspired by Tom Moore, so I would like to try and raise £15,000 if possible by doing 100 25m laps before my 10th birthday, on the 18th of May.
This is really going to be a challenge for me as I am a non-walker.’

The funds raised will go to the Care Workers Charity, who have agreed to use this money to help the families of care workers with funeral costs.

Ethan’s mum, Kathryn, told the Manchester Evening News “as parents, we can’t express the amount of admiration and courage Ethan has. He is always thinking of others and doesn’t let his disabilities stop him. Ethan is one of six children and we are all out every day with him cheering him on and encouraging him.”

We are all behind you, wishing you the best of luck, Ethan and will be cheering you on every step of the way!
