St James Primary Family Win Big at Pride of Gorton Awards

The prestigious Pride of Gorton Awards took place on Sunday 18th October 2020, broadcast via Youtube. We are incredibly proud to see that two members of our school family at St James CE Primary in Gorton, were nominated for awards – and won in both of their categories.

Category One: Community Pride Award was won by our Reverend Craig Smith. His nomination described how he ‘rose the the challenges of the Covid 19 lockdown spectacularly’, to organise the distribution of food parcels and meals, organising volunteers to help with the effort. ‘The rectory phone has become a hotline for anyone needing help in Gorton… He is a true asset to the Gorton community’.

Category Two: Young Achievement Award was won by our St James pupil, Ethan Beardow for raising an astonishing £80,000 for the funerals of Covid19 victims, with followers all over the world he was supported by the Manchester Evening News and Good Morning Britain. His nomination commented that ‘he was told he would never walk so what he has done is incredible… he is setting a shining example to never give up despite what you are told you can’t do.’
