4. Literacy

In order for children to understand what they are reading and build comprehension, they have to build speed within their reading. We call this fluency.

In our RWI sessions, we practise building fluency by sounding out the words in our heads (Fred in your head).

The only way to get faster and build fluency is to practise reading and this is why it is so important to read at home regularly. Reading should be a fun activity that all children can enjoy.

Our new platform, Learning with Parents, helps Reception families practice fun activities together to learn more about new topics at school.

The platform is video and game based, with clips to explain how you can have a go at each activity at home and let your teacher know what you’ve been up to to earn rewards.
