6. Understanding The World
In addition, listening to a broad selection of stories, non-fiction, rhymes and poems will foster their understanding of our culturally, socially, technologically and ecologically diverse world. As well as building important knowledge, this extends their familiarity with words that support understanding across domains.
Enriching and widening children’s vocabulary will support later reading comprehension. In the EYFS framework, Understanding the World is made up of three aspects: Past and present, the natural world and people, culture and communities.

Our new platform, Learning with Parents, helps Reception families practice fun activities together to learn more about new topics at school.
The platform is video and game based, with clips to explain how you can have a go at each activity at home and let your teacher know what you’ve been up to to earn rewards.
